On Thursday, April 1 at 8 pm, in celebration of our passing the 10,000 Twitter follower mark, Storm will be attempting to eat an entire Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake at ThinkGeek HQ in Fairfax, VA. (Full details of the event are in this post)
Because we don’t want to be seen as Wasteful Americans who have so much extra food lying around that we regularly eat 12-serving desserts all by ourselves, we are turning the event into a fundraiser for an area charity we have been working with for a while, the Arlington Food Assistance Center. And not only can you take this opportunity to donate to a good cause, but you can WIN COOL STUFF!
As such, we proudly present FudgieThon 2010!
Here’s the deal: click on this button right here…UPDATE: sorry; donations no longer being accepted. You can still donate directly at the AFAC website.
…to donate and sponsor Storm in his cake-eating attempt. (You know, like a walk-a-thon, just with less exercise and lots more cake) When Storm eats the entire Fudgy the Whale (and he will), 100% of all donations will go to AFAC—which, as it happens, has a matching grant right now through the Feinstein Foundation to “Help End Hunger in America”, so every dollar donated will actually equal two.
But that’s not all: every dollar you donate will count as a single “chance” in a random drawing to win one of two $100 ThinkGeek gift certificates. We will continue to take donations, even after the event has finished, until Sunday, April 11th at 11:59 pm. Two winners will be selected on Monday, April 12th. So if you donate $5, you have five “chances” to win; $10 gets you ten chances, etc. (See how that works?)
Our goal is to raise $2,000 to help feed families and individuals in need. We also heartily encourage making a donation to a food bank in your local community. So go donate now, and often, and tell your friends!

Is anyone able to donate with the Fudgithon button? It just directs me to paypal but I’m not sure what to do past that. Really. It just takes me to my paypal page.
Try it now; Paypal seems to not like it when you try to use your own button, even though it was THEIR OWN DAMN SYSTEM THAT GENERATED THE CODE TO WALK US THROUGH GENERATING THE DAMN THING.
Sorry; a little bitter.
P&S.
Thanks for the fix, worked like a charm. This is a great way to turn a fun stunt into a great cause.
Does it make me a bad person if I donated to this and not Haiti? I was really broke during the Haiti earthquakes (like negative balance). Now I decided I could spare $5 for a good cause.
Guys – c’mon – April Fools?
This is totally, 100% NOT an April Fool’s prank.
It’s for real.
It’s FUDGIE, for heaven’s sake…
P&S
I will be with my family at an Amish Country B&B tomorrow night; I hope the recording is still there for the weekend! Glad to support a good cause. Can you give us occasional thermometer checks in the post or comments?
This is probably the most perfect event to get another minion designation for the Brigade of Minions! Not sure what to call it though. Supported the Fudgies? Not sure but damn if the minions shouldn’t get some sort of title out of this if they donate.
You’ll get an e-check instead of an instant donation – will that count toward the drawing? (Doesn’t really matter, you’ll get the donation anyway.)
Great idea – and good luck with the consumption!
Absolutely. 100% of what we collect will go to AFAC and their matching grant–while the FudgieThon is running we’re assuming that any money donated to us and not designated as a song purchase/podcast contribution is for FudgieThon.
We’re already overwhelmed by the positive response from this impromptu virtual food drive, and are already at about half of our goal–thanks to everyone who has contributed so far!
FYI the $2,000 goal is a random number that we thought might be on the fringe of achievable, but every dollar over the goal would certainly be put to immediate use. AFAC now serves 25% more families than one year ago, and 63% more than two years ago. And food banks across the country are facing similar crunches, so we also encourage folks to help out their local food bank, too!
So thank you again for helping us turn this entertaining but frivolous exercise into something that will actually have an immediate, direct and positive impact on people’s lives.
But enough sincerity–we now return to our regularly scheduled poop jokes.
And yes–Official Minions should e-mail us if they’ve donated, and we’ll mark it down as an Achievement (name tbd). To help us assure you’re given proper credit, please title your e-mail “FudgieThon Minion” and include your Minion name somewhere in the text body.
You neglected to mention where local food banks are located so we could donate. Is there one in the Lake Ridge area of Woodbridge?
I wanted to make a poetic comment on this awesome achievement, but haiku aren’t my usual m.o. and Twitter isn’t big enough for limericks, so:
Eating two pounds of cake gives him pause,
Storm deserves our acclaim and applause!
To devour a whole “Fudgie”
You’re left bloated and pudgy,
But, at least, it is for a good cause.
Well done, sir!
Fudgiethon must raise one dollar for every calorie Storm ingested on this glorious night! That’s 2100, at least… Probably more considering he went for cupcakes and other stuff after Fudgie.
Call me Mr. Tardy, though better to donate late than not at all. Glad to see the link still working. Well done, P&S!
OT: Which of you would be best cast to portray Nikola Tesla in the (hypothetical) upcoming movie to be scripted by John Scalzi?
Inquiring minds and all that…
Here’s a stupid question: I donated through Paypal, but I didn’t leave any name or address info. If I’m lucky enough to win, do you have my email address (or whatever info you need)?
