Here we are again, throwing down with our musical colleagues in the Songwriting Octagon, winner take all (eventually). Our first task for the second Masters of Song Fu competition was to “write a song about the moon.” Here’s what we came up with:
[audio:http://www.paulandstorm.com/sounds/newstuff/CruelCruelMoon.mp3|titles=Cruel Cruel Moon]
Cruel, Cruel Moon
Having heard a sneak preview of some of the submissions (we can do this because we’re special, and because our song is submitted and can’t be changed now), we’re very impressed by the wide variety of approaches people took towards the task. Songwriting is neat!
UPDATE: Voting has now begun…you can listen to all the submissions and vote for your favorites here—one vote for the Masters, one vote for the Challengers. Go vote for your favorites! (If we happen to be one of them, more’s the better) Voting ends next Thursday (Aug. 28), so go do your civic duty.

Nice work. I’ll take American Werewolf references wherever I can find them.
Really good job guys. I love that everyone used the real moon and not the ham of a moon. This is going to be tough!
Totally dig it.
That’s some quality work, guys!
I’ll take a joke in the place of a rhyme any day!
Sounds more like Phil and Don than Paul and Storm. (But in this case that’s a good thing.)
I just voted for your song and the challenger but the results on the page after that show my vote going to the rifftones instead of you. The challenger vote worked correctly but at least One of those rifftones votes is supposed to be yours.
I don’t know what to do to fix it other than to go to another compuker and try again.
I agree, it’s awesomely Everly-esque.
Round one is a cake,er moonwalk, for you guys, once the popularity contest gets out the way 😉 Out of the masters you were the only song we had , HAD , to hear twice.
Voted for you guys…
Here’s to hoping.
I will be voting for your track when the page lets me vote! 🙁
Loved it right from the start, despite Coulton’s entry growing on me (unsurprising) increasingly over the weekend, I think your entry is brilliant! Just nailed the right amount of funny, combined with the right amount of werewolf related moon Fu.
And any song with the word “Lycanthropising” deserves to win!
@Percephene I remember last competition the page had some problems voting in various browsers, but I assume it’s been fixed – I’ve been able to see the voting script properly in Firefox (Ubuntu and Windows), Opera (Ubuntu), Safari (Windows), and IE8 (Windows), IE6, 5.5, 5 (Ubuntu). In short, web standards, ftw. But if it’s not letting you vote, maybe clear your cookies, and make sure you aren’t doing anything weird to block the site from scripting they’re doing. I think they are just using standard radio buttons, and applying a script and a 1st party cookie to them.
But I digress.
I am at a shared connection now, and the tubes are pretty clogged, so I can’t listen at the moment, but I bet it rocks (pun intended?). Good luck guys!
Nope, Firefox 2, no script blocker, nothing weird, cleared my cache to no avail. I did manage to get the voting to work in IE eventually though so I have been able to cast my vote now thankfully.
Thanks also P&S for the helpful post on the JoCo forums and for the update on your podcast timing! ^_^
Hey, you guys are winning! As of 10:18 PST, 8/27/08, the Master’s scores are:
P&S: 298
JoCo: 293
Rifftones: 292
Sweet.
P&S are still in the lead! Will Mister “Internet Superstar” finally get his long-due comeuppance at the hands of the dick joke guys? Time will tell…
Wow, it’s good to see the voting so close on round one, and even better with you guys in the lead! I just wish their voting system wasn’t so damn broken. I could vote in the masters challenge, but it already said that I’d voted in the challenger contest.
I don’t know if it’s intentional of not, but I can hear the riff from Warren Zevon’s Werewolves of London ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhSc8qVMjKM ) in the song. Nice touch!
Impressive text. Waiting for you to continue the topic.
