Every day from December 1st until December 25th (for the benefit of our Festivus-celebrating friends, that’s ChristmasDay), we’re presenting a brand-new Randy Newman-style movie theme song, posted at our spanky-new Bandcamp page. Oh, and they’re all available for download absolutely FREE! Of course, you’re certainly welcome to pay for them, if you like. (The site allows you to choose any amount…always appreciated, but by no means required) The songs are also available via iTunes and an RSS feed.
So head on over each morning to our Bandcamp page and check out the new daily Newman. It’s like an Advent calendar, but without the candy, and with a better soundtrack. Thank you to everyone who made movie suggestions—if you hear a movie that you suggested, go ahead and take some credit for it.
UPDATE: We’re writing and recording these as we go along, so movie suggestions are still welcome.
In this episode: we have some trouble with the date; Storm discusses his possible mental disorder; old-school video game Easter eggs; we ponder the fate of our old server once it’s replaced; we scramble to find more fun; the cranberry sauce camps are identified; and Storm gets all the cooltoys.
Audience participation alert! Please respond to the poll below and help us decide the name of our (eventual) new server. Also, please post your comments suggesting which Xbox 360 package and/or accessories Storm should purchase, as well as suggestions for what we should finally do with our existing server.
UPDATE:The following names are in use or already retired by Webmaster Russ: Sinistar, Xevious, Gyruss, Tempest, Pengo, Gorf, Pacman, Ms Pacman, Tron, Skyshark, Gorgar.
Featured post-show song: “Captain Lou’s History of Music/Captain Lou Albano” – Captain Lou Albano
Once again we have failed to deliver the podcast goods, and this time even Puppet is too disgusted to cover our asses. So we’re proud to present Popcorn Mayhem!*
*CAUTION: Extraordinarily ordinary and completely without surprises or clever touches. Just a slice of one of life’s regular moments. We’ll be surprised if you make it past one minute. Really.
First, the "real-world" love: many thanks to the crowd at this past Friday’s show at the Paradise in Boston; it was an amazing way to cap off the year for us, what with all the worked-up, sweaty geeks shouting and tossing a near-record pile of panties at us. Oh, and Jonathan was pretty good, too. Plus, Storm finally got the Xmas present he’s been waiting 38 years for (see left, thanks to fan Suzi for the pic), and he wasted no time when he got home terrifying his cats with it.
Also, big thanks to the many fine folks at Harmonix, who allowed us to eat some of their pizza, tour the offices, see a frickin’ laser, and screw around on Rock Band 2 for a couple hours Friday afternoon. A big bunch of them came to our show that night, which was cool, even if they did shout out a terrible request or two. You are forgiven, Harmonixites; everything’s gonna be fine, fine, fine.
On the "virtual love" track, we got some blog notice this week from Neatorama and Crooks and Liars. Hi, guys!
We’ve got onle last show for 2008 this Friday, and it’s gonna be a particularly great one. (We actually plan months in advance which shows are going to be exceptional and which ones will be merely passable; and the schedule has Friday’s show listed as "super-awesome")
So if you’re anywhere near Boston, we know where you either will be, or wish that you will be:
In this episode: Paul swears a lot, is scatterbrained and self-involved, and recounts a tale of charging the mound of a World Series winner; Storm admits to watching cartoons in college, comes perilously close to kissing ass, and gets us all considering who should be the first Chief Nerd.
Audience participation alert! Please respond to the poll below and help us decide on the new US Secretary of Geek Affairs—or post a comment nominating your own candidate.
UPDATE: Bracketed Grand Tourney coming soon (Michael Wiczer FTW)…keep the suggestions coming!
Several alert fans forwarded this story to us; apparently, Greek Orthodox and Armenian monks got into a massive brawl at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (one of the holiest sites in all Christendom). There’s even video.
In this episode: we avoid fractions; blasphemy and near-blasphemy as Storm describes the Great Miracle; a new euphemism is born, as well as a truism; comfort movies and guilty pleasures are discussed; and Tom Hanks haunts the second half of the show.
Audience participation alert! Please post a comment telling us of your favorite “comfort movies” and/or “guilty pleasure movies.”
The Puppet is back in a UK video-adventure that will make no sense whatsoever if only listened to as audio. May not make any sense anyway, but at least seeing the video portion will give you a fighting chance.
