Quad Cities

This weekend, we wing straight back to Iowa (which treated us so nicely last weekend) for a series of shows at Penguins Comedy Club in Bettendorf. While we’ve never been able to quite figure out the relationship between penguins and comedy–they’re not know for their standup or improv abilities, and their observations on air travel and male-female relationships are banal at best–the club is awesome, the manager is a sweetheart, and there’s a casino just a couple hundred yards away. So we’re not complaining.

Plus, Bettendorf is the home of the Magic Mountain (the edible kind); and we’ll most likely take a side trip to the Wilton Candy Kitchen while we’re out there. So it’ll be a Cornhusker food adventure weekend! Join us!

Lame Monster Party

Lame Monster PartyIn honor of Halloween, we feature our attempt from last year to join the Holiday-themed Novelty Song Hall of Fame. Current inductees include “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” and “What Can You Get a Wookie for Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb)?”‘ but the undisputed champion of all holiday-themed novelty songs is Bobby “Boris” Pickett‘s Monster Mash, a groovy tune about a swinging dance party.

But not every party is a raging success, nor do they all spawn new dance crazes. In point of fact, most parties kind of…well, they kind of suck. At least the ones we’ve been to. And we figured, why would monster parties necessarily be any different?

Et voilĂ , Lame Monster Party: they fought for their right to party, won, and then squandered it all. (click the little “play” button to hear it.)

Many thanks to Len Peralta for the artwork that not only captures the true essence of the song, but managed to include the tiny nod to Homestarrunner.com. (Can you spot it? Good for you!) Click on the picture to find larger versions.

It’s the Monster!!!

This is the latest Best Thing Ever. Since Halloween is nigh, here’s a dub by StSanders of Iron Maiden. Who is StSanders? This is StSanders; and here are more dubs he’s made. All of them are made of win. Happy Halloween, everyone! (Thanks to Coulton for turning us on to these.)

A Hunnert Demands!

Thanks, everyone; this weekend, we just passed 100 demands on our Eventful account.

And what is Eventful?  Well, see that blue box over there on the right? That links to a page where you can "demand" that we appear in your town/city/locality/prefecture. It’s a great way for us to judge where we should tour; the more demands in a place, the more people likely to actually show up when we get there. Easy peasie. And as fun and funny as our songs are, we’re even more enjoyable live and in-person. Better than 1,000 Fonzies. And wouldn’t it be great if 1,000 Fonzies came to your town?

So thanks again; you like us! You really like us!

TSOYA Interview

The Sound of Young AmericaJesse Thorn runs a great public radio show, The Sound of Young America, which is about, in their words, "things that are awesome." (Mostly interviews with arts and culture folks, and especially people in the humor and comedy world, such as George Saunders, John Hodgman, Patton Oswalt, and so forth. You can – and should – subscribe to the podcast version on iTunes, or download any and all episodes from their archive)

They’ve just published an interview with us on their blog; I suppose this means that, since we’re on their blog instead of the radio show, our thoughts are awesome, but our voices are not. Anyway, we had a good time doing it, since they did revolutionary things like ask interesting questions. Special thanks to Jesse’s lackey pal Aaron Matthews, who actually conducted the interview.

Sellersville, PA

Only one show this weekend (for a change!), at a great little theater in PA, with our ol’ pal Coulton. If you can only do one thing this Friday at 8 p.m., this show should be IT.

Twitter

Being doughy middle-aged guys, we’re sometimes leery of the technology. Don’t know exactly when it happened, but it did; now, our first reaction to anything new tends to be to whine and bitch about how awesome our Atari 2600 and Intellivision games used to be.  But every once in a while, we like to dip our toes in the New Things Pool; usually, we wait until the New Stuff isn’t really new anymore, and it’s floated downstream into the Not New, But New to Us Lagoon.

Such is the case with Twitter. (Or, as the hip folks would call it, "The Twitter") Twitter is essentially a home for tiny blogs – limited, in fact, to 140 characters. When we first heard about it (as we often do about such things, via JoCo), we thought it was patently ridiculous. "So, wait," we said, "in addition to existing blogs, which already publish the unadulterated random musings of anyone and everyone who ever believed that their every single thought was not only important, but worthy of publication; but now there’s these little mini-blogs, for telling everyone that you’re currently eating ice cream, or watching "Numb3rs", or feeding your cat?"

"Yes," said Coulton. "And it’s awesome and addictive."

You know what? He’s kinda right. (Coulton always is right. He’s really annoying that way) So we’ve opened up our own Twitter account, to post the little thoughts/occurrences/etc. that aren’t quite substantial enough to merit their own blog posts. You can follow our twitter posts (we’re told they’re called "tweets," but…just, no) online, on your phone, whatever. We promise to try to keep the mundanity (is that a word?) to a minimum, if such a thing is possible on social-networking experiments such as these.

We’ll both be posting on the account, with the name [Paul] or [Storm] appearing to help you keep score. If there’s no name then it means it’s a glorious (if bite-sized) shared experience.

Nun Fight – The Art / Shirt / Poster / Etc.

Our good friend Len Peralta, who has skills of an artist, has made an awesome "fight poster" version of our latest minor hit, Nun Fight. It is thoroughly cool.  Many, many thanks, Len!

We have, in fact, added it to our CafePress store, so that you too can own it on the front of a shirt, or on a mug, or a mouse pad, or a thong, or a greeting card, or…you get the idea.

So drop by the Nun Fight section of the P&S CafePress store, iff’n you care to.
