This time around, we’ll be at the lovely Balboa Theatre, and we plan to make it even more epically epic than last time around. Show #109: Dennis Kucinich Sees a Transporter

The hunnerdninthrd episode of our podcast, Paul and Storm Talk About Some Stuff for Five to Ten Minutes (On Average), is now online.

This week’s episode: we spend some quality time in a hotel room with not one, but TWO special guests: P&S podcast veteran Mike Phirman, and YouTube/nerd/brother-person Hank Green. We discuss getting “a guy” and gender-dependent pronouns; Hank (who is a professional musician) and his inability to change guitar strings; The Pokemon Line and other end-of-childhood landmarks; introducing historical figures to current music genres; Hank’s strange egg-preparation predilections; textured vegetable product; Phirman’s anosmic adventures; and Storm is creeped out by BlinkyTM.

Show #108: Axe Cop

The hunnerdseightthth episode of our podcast, Paul and Storm Talk About Some Stuff for Five to Ten Minutes (On Average), is now online.

This week’s episode: a special “interview-ish” podcast with Axe Cop co-creator and artist Ethan Nicolle. We all chat about the origins and creative process of Axe Cop, the unexpected breakout success the webcomic, Ethan’s other past and future projects, working with a family member (who is also a pre-adolescent), and our mutual close personal friend Kevin Murphy.

Note: Apologies for the audio quality/occasional dropouts; Skype was being persnickety.

Show #107: Cheese Puffs Are for Poor People

The hunnerdseventhth episode of our podcast, Paul and Storm Talk About Some Stuff for Five to Ten Minutes (On Average), is now online.

This week’s episode: Storm’s been moody; Paul wants to go see Larry King’s stand-up; an exploration of “stuck songs” (or “earworms, if you will), and the extraction of same; Storm overcomes his contrarian streak to get a new Macbook Pro, which leads to a brief discussion of other previously-longed-for technology; we get all excited about our friend John Scalzi’s movie option deal; more w00tstock teasing; cheese puffs elitism; and yet another Theoretical Challenge. Also, we recommend Molly Lewis’ “An Open Letter to Stephen Fry“. (Also also: yes, we know about the hiss; should be gone after Storm gets his new recording setup running)

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION ALERT: How do you get rid of a stuck song? Also: what console games have you had?

Post-show song: “Nights on Broadway“, The Bee Gees

Into the West (to Perform Shows in March)

Lookee lookee: we’ve got some new shows scheduled on the Left Coast next month; and if we do say so ourselves, they’re going to be awesomesauce…

PART 1:  NERDS & MUSIC

First off: two shows, in Seattle and Portland, that we are labeling “Nerds & Music” (get it?), which will be an evening of music performances both by and for nerds. (“Normals” are welcome, too) You can think of them as sort of mini-w00tstocks—except without Adam and Wil, and with fewer performers, and with all music acts, and not 4-5 hours long, and not called “w00tstock”.  But otherwise, exactly the same.

Who will be performing in them, you ask? Good question, we answer; these shows will feature our good friends Hank Green (he of the vlogbrothers and the Nerdfighters and the 83,762 other awesome projects) and Mike Phirman (he of the Mike Phirman and Hard ‘n Phirm). I know, right? Will there be other surprise guests? Maybe! It’s not for us to say. (Well, yeah, it is; but we’re just not sure yet)

UPDATE: just added to Portland show: comedy/nerd/sister duo The Doubleclicks!

Details:

Wednesday, March 23 – Nerds & Music (with Hank Green & Mike Phirman)
The Triple Door, Seattle, WA – 7:30 pm
Tickets:  http://bit.ly/hoTtks

Friday, March 25 – Nerds & Music (with Hank Green, Mike Phirman & The Doubleclicks)
Aladdin Theater, Portland, OR – 8 pm
Tickets:  http://bit.ly/iaxnd2

PART 2: WIL WHEATON VS. PAUL AND STORM

As you might possibly guess (if you are incredibly perceptive), we are doing a show with our old w00tstock fellow-traveler Wil Wheaton. This time, we’ll meet on the battlefields of Los Angeles at one of our favorite venues everwhereplace: Largo at the Coronet. There will be music from us, stories from Wil, more special surprise guests, and pirates everywhere. This will be one for the ages, folks. (All ages, that is) (Get it?)

Tuesday, March 29 – Wil Wheaton vs. Paul and Storm
Largo at the Coronet, Los Angeles, CA – 7:30 pm

Show #106: Moomami

The hunnerdsixthth episode of our podcast, Paul and Storm Talk About Some Stuff for Five to Ten Minutes (On Average), is now online.

This week’s episode: Storm is reduced to Skype-level audio quality, as his Mac Mini has given out; we offer our (hopefully) final thoughts on the “Paul cheating” issue, including the concept of “Canadian cheating;” we opine about flavors and couch farts; Storm invents a board game; we tease about some upcoming shows; and neither of us cares about Valentine’s Day.

Show #105: Watch Out for When It’s Gaul

The hunnerdfif episode of our podcast, Paul and Storm Talk About Some Stuff for Five to Ten Minutes (On Average), is now online.

This week’s episode: Paul doesn’t quite meet up with Weird Al; Paul asks for judgment on a high school exam situation; the Steampunk Soup Internet; spiciness and a “Stupid Young Storm” story; we recommend many things, including books, some artwork, and a podcast; and a bake-off battle.

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION ALERT: Regarding Paul European History situation: a) did he cheat? b) was it unethical? and c) was it “unfair?” EDIT: In addition, d) was it “wrong?” Also, please participate in the poll below.

Show #104: Bear-swatting Expedition

The hunnerdfourthth episode of our podcast, Paul and Storm Talk About Some Stuff for Five to Ten Minutes (On Average), is now online.

This week’s episode: the inevitable JoCo Cruise Crazy post-mortem; figuring out what “yeoman’s work” entails; Storm conquers Dunn’s River Falls; low-impact snorkeling; watching the uninitiated adjust to the Geek Maelstrom; personal highlights form the trip; everybody loves Mike Phirman; and bum-wiping service. Also, Storm’s computer craps out at the end.

Drifty the Snowman

From the author of “The Five Little Pickles” and editor of “Emily and the Really Sexy Vampyre” comes this timeless winter classic about what happens when a snowman comes to life. Except for the swearing and violence, it would probably make an excellent children’s story.

Illustrations are by our good friend Len Peralta (lenperalta.com); click the page numbers below to advance through the story–if you dare! Which you will. Because you know that nothing bad will happen to you; only (possibly) the characters.

And be sure to check out the rest of Paul and Storm’s Holiday Grab Bag.

Hooray! It’s Christmas Eve Eve Again!

Once again, we have reached that most overlooked of almost-holidays, Christmas Eve Eve.

In the spirit of the season, we offer this musical celebration of the day for 100% FREES! (from last year’s It Might Be Xmas project)
